How the ways to win are counted

The number of ways to win is the product of the symbols visible on each reel. In a standard six-reel layout, each reel shows between 2 and 7 symbols. The minimum is therefore 64 ways (2×2×2×2×2×2), while the maximum is 117,649 (7×7×7×7×7×7).

Most spins land somewhere in between. If the six reels show 3, 5, 7, 4, 6 and 2 symbols, the spin has 3×5×7×4×6×2 = 5,040 ways. Some games add a horizontal reel above the middle reels that adds extra symbols to them, which changes the count, and the game's rules screen explains exactly how.

More ways does not mean more money. A symbol still has to appear on at least three adjacent reels from the left, symbol values are set low enough to account for the many ways, and the game's return to player (RTP) already averages across every possible reel layout. Cascades and volatility
